Ask three suppliers for a quote on what sounds like "the same" LED module, and you'll often get three very different numbers back. We see this constantly — a customer forwards us a competitor's quote, convinced someone is either overcharging or lowballing, and nine times out of ten the real answer is simpler: the two quotes aren't actually pricing the same thing.
This isn't a price list. Any specific number we printed here would be stale within months — raw material costs shift, exchange rates move, and pricing varies by project anyway. What actually holds up over time is understanding which variables move the needle on cost, so you can read a quote line by line and know what you're paying for, instead of just comparing the bottom-line total.
This sounds obvious until you've actually done it wrong. A "module price" and a "cabinet price" are two different figures measuring two different things, and neither is the same as a price per square meter for the finished display. We've had customers convinced a competitor was cheaper, only to realize the competitor's number was per-module and ours was per-cabinet — not even close to an apples-to-apples comparison.

DIP and SMD sit at different points on the cost spectrum, and it comes down to manufacturing complexity more than anything else. DIP uses an older, simpler, more established process, which keeps costs down. SMD costs somewhat more to produce but covers a much wider range of pixel pitches — from standard outdoor signage down to finer indoor pitches — which is part of why it's become the default across most of the industry.

This is the one that trips up first-time buyers the most. There's an assumption that going from a wider pitch to a finer one adds a proportional bump to the price. It doesn't work that way. Packing more pixels into the same physical area multiplies the chip count, the driver ICs, and the PCB complexity, not just the pixel density. CE, FCC, and RoHS certifications aren't just logos on a datasheet. They represent real lab testing, documentation, and compliance work that a legitimate manufacturer has already paid for before your order even comes in. When a quote lands noticeably below everyone else's, that's usually the first place to look — ask directly whether full certification documentation is included, priced separately, or simply not there.
Skipping certification looks like a discount on the invoice. It tends to show up later as a much bigger cost — customs holds, failed inspections, or paying for compliance testing retroactively under time pressure. This is where "the same module" ends up with two completely different price tags depending on who's asking and how much they're ordering.
Standard, off-the-shelf configurations carry lower, more predictable MOQs — for a single standard module type, that's typically around 200 pieces. Custom OEM/ODM work — a specific size, a specific driver setup, a non-standard finish — almost always comes with a higher MOQ, because the manufacturer is setting up a production run specifically for that order rather than pulling from stock that already exists.
Pricing on most modules also steps down in tiers as volume goes up, since fixed costs — setup, testing, packaging — get spread across more units. A small trial order will always carry a higher per-unit price than a bulk order. That's not a sign of being overcharged; it's just how the math works. Standard sizes benefit from tooling and production lines that already exist, which is why they're the most cost-predictable option. Step outside standard dimensions and you're usually looking at new tooling or an adjusted production setup — which adds cost, especially at lower volumes.
Color works similarly. Standard single colors or standard full-color configurations are the cheapest path. Non-standard color temperatures or specific color-matching requests mean extra calibration work on our end.
PCB-level customization sits at the far end of this spectrum — a modified driver IC, a custom circuit layout, non-standard connector placement. This touches the actual engineering of the module rather than just its finish, so it's priced accordingly.
The number on a quote is rarely the number that ends up leaving your bank account. Freight, insurance, import duties, and customs handling all stack on top of the module price to form what's usually called the landed cost — and depending on the destination country and current tariff rates, that gap can be significant.

Skip the temptation to just line up the bottom-line numbers. Ask each supplier the same questions instead:
Is this quoted per module, per cabinet, or per square meter?
Does the price include CE/FCC/RoHS documentation, or is that separate?
What's the MOQ — and does it change for a custom configuration?
Is this a standard size and color, or does it require new tooling?
Is the price FOB, or does it already include freight and insurance?
Are import duties factored in, or will they show up as a separate cost later?
Getting straight answers to these before you commit tells you more than any spec sheet will.
