This project was commissioned by a municipal government in a European city. The goal was to install a durable, bright, and reliable outdoor screen in a busy public square to function as a 24/7 informational hub. The client needed a platform that could show public service announcements, community events, and real-time alerts.
Public information screens have zero tolerance for downtime and require extreme reliability.
24/7 Uptime Strategy: For a screen constantly running critical information, the internal electronics must not overheat. We utilized advanced fanless convection cooling technology. This eliminates the mechanical failure point of a fan and ensures consistent temperature control, extending the component lifespan.
Fighting "Screen Shimmer" in Photos: Since many citizens and news agencies photograph public squares, we configured this screen with a very high refresh rate (≥ 3,840 Hz). This ensures that when people take photos with their smartphones, the image on the screen doesn’t appear with "scan lines" or flicker, making the city’s messaging clearer and more professional in media coverage.
Balancing Clarity and Investment: At the specific viewing distance of this public plaza, a P5 pixel pitch offered the ideal sweet spot. Text is legible from down the street, while graphics remain sharp for those standing nearby, optimizing the city's budget without compromising visual impact.
The P5 Decision: This pitch was chosen based on the typical viewing distance of the plaza, ensuring clear communication without the over-engineering of a finer pitch.
European All-Weather Prep: The screen features a rugged IP65 (front and rear) aluminum chassis. It’s built to withstand heavy Mediterranean rainstorms, high summer heat, and winter frosts.
Auto-Calibration: Built-in brightness sensors automatically adjust the screen nits, ensuring it’s bright enough during the day to fight direct sunlight and dims at night to respect the local environment and save on energy costs.
The municipal square now has a functional, durable digital landmark. The screen has streamlined how the local government communicates with its citizens, turning a static public space into an interactive, real-time information center. The city noted a reduction in physical banner waste and a significant increase in public engagement with civic notices.
